Social Media Marketing – What is It and How to Use It

Social media, the buzzwords for today. Or are they old words with new meanings. I decided to go to today’s encyclopedia Wikipedia for some definition for us Baby Boomers and anyone still learning what its all about.(I’ve edited to my liking)

Social media marketing is an addition to personal, small business, corporate, and non-profit organizations integrated marketing communications plans. Integrated marketing communications is a multifaceted, orchestrated marketing and advertising practice organizations follow to connect with their target markets. Integrated marketing communications coordinates promotional elements:advertising, personal sales, public relations, publicity, direct marketing and sales promotion.

Increasingly, viral marketing campaigns are also grouped into integrated marketing communications. In the traditional marketing communications model, the content, frequency, timing, and medium of communications by the organization is in collaboration with an external agent, i.e. advertising agencies, marketing research firms and public relations firms.

However, the growth of social media has impacted the way organizations communicate. With the emergence of Web 2.0, the internet provides a set of tools that allow people to build social and business connections, share information and collaborate on projects online. (Especially important to small business.)

Social media marketing programs usually center on efforts to create content that attracts attention and encourages readers to share it with their social networks. A corporate message spreads from user to user and presumably resonates because it is coming from a trusted, third-party source, as opposed to the brand or company itself.

Social media has become a platform that is easily accessible to anyone with internet access. Increased communication for organizations fosters brand awareness and often, improved customer service. Additionally, social media serves as a relatively inexpensive platform for Businesses to implement marketing campaigns. With emergence of channels like Facebook, the barrier to entry in social media is greatly reduced.

Facebook,Twitter,YouTube, Blogs

Social Networking websites allow individuals to interact with one another and build relationships. When products or companies join those sites, people can interact with the product or company. That interaction feels personal to users because of their previous experiences with social networking site interactions.

Social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Blogs allow individual followers to “retweet” or “repost” comments made by the product being promoted. By repeating the message, all of the users connections are able to see the message, therefore reaching more people. Social networking sites act as word of mouth. Because the information about the product is being put out there and is getting repeated, more traffic is brought to the product/company

Through social networking sites, products/companies can have conversations and interactions with individual followers. This personal interaction can instill a feeling of loyalty into followers and potential customers. Also, by choosing whom to follow on these sites, products can reach a very narrow target audience.

Cell Phones

Cell phone usage has also become a benefit for social media marketing. Today, many cell phones have social networking capabilities: individuals are notified of any happenings on social networking sites through their cell phones, in real-time. This constant connection to social networking sites means products and companies can constantly remind and update followers about their capabilities, uses, importance, etc. Because cell phones are connected to social networking sites, advertisements are always in sight.

Facebook

Facebook profiles are more detailed than Twitter. They allow a product to provide videos, photos, and longer descriptions. Videos can show when a product can be used as well as how to use it. It can include testimonials as other followers can comment on the product pages for others to see. Facebook can link back to the product’s Twitter page as well as send out event reminders. Facebook promotes a product in real-time and brings customers in.

Twitter

Twitter allows companies to promote products on an individual level. The use of a product can be explained in short messages that followers are more likely to read. These messages appear on followers’ home pages. Messages can link to the product’s website, Facebook profile, photos, videos, etc. This link provides followers the opportunity to spend more time interacting with the product online. This interaction can create a loyal connection between product and individual and can also lead to larger advertising opportunities. Twitter promotes a product in real-time and brings customers in.

Blogs

Blogs allow a product or company to provide longer descriptions of products or services. The longer description can include reasoning and uses. It can include testimonials and can link to and from Facebook and Twitter pages. Blogs can be updated frequently and are promotional techniques for keeping customers.

My conclusion to this discussion is that if we want customers. We need to treat them and communicate with them differently. Times are changing, but not really, great customer service has always been the hallmark of a successful company. The difference now is the smaller business can be involved and create fans not just customers. Stay upwith the times and reap the rewards. Stay Educated, Get educated, Read some Books. Enjoy the Journey.

Writing Days Go Quickly

Days go quickly when you’re having fun writing your first book. Its Friday already and time to update what has been happening. Had a opportunity to join a mastermind group for the yesterday and test out my outline. My direction that I thought my book would be going as well as my target market had some slight tweaks and an explosion in the volume of information I could put in my book.

It was great to get feedback so immediately as master mind groups will do and see that I may have missed a large and specific niche that would love my information.

In my research I’ve come across a number of ways to write a book, in a day, week or 6 weeks or a year. I’ve chosen a combination of a day and 6 weeks as a fast start. I also wanted it doable not scary, and something that others will buy.

The fast start information from Selbymarketing.com -”Why you should write a book?”

1. Get a 3 ring binder that has front and side slide in covers, make up your working title with your name. (mine is You Have a Book in You – How to turn your knowledge and passion into financial success for you! by Wayde Johnston) what a rush I’m a author, well a start anyways. Change your attitude, change your outlook, you’ll see new results.

2. Fill the inside with numbered tabs or personalized tap sheets(10 to 15). Add clear page protectors to each section. Now your ready to start your outline.

3. Brain Storm – this mean no bad ideas no criticism, spelling don’t care, correct later. Take 3×5 cards or multiple colored 8 1/2 x11 sheets and put one or two words or short descriptions at the top of each page. I’m asking myself these questions

Who is my audience, What do they want to know?  Why do they need my book? How’s my book going to be better than anyone else?

B  How many pages do I want to make my book? (180 page was my starting idea, divide by ten-twelve pages each chapter gives me 13-15 chapters.)

C  What subjects do I want to cover in each chapter? (I wrote 6-10 ideas so far for 14 chapters going back to a little more research and putting the subjects (each page) into questions)

My goal is this weekend to have the outline with questions created for each chapter. Going forward next week is to have a friend ask me the questions and tape my reply. These tapes will be sent to an outsourcing company to transcribe and give me a base to start editing my book.

I’ll be updating next week on my progress.

You Have a Book In You – How to Write a Nonfiction Book

I’ve been a avid reader and learner. Reading non-fiction for 30 plus years and have collected and given away hundreds of books to many friends and acquaintances over the last 15 years. What I’ve learned in the last little while is that people that write books become an expert in their subject just by writing a book. I’m been asks what are your top ten success books Wayde and how do I write a non fiction book.  I’ve recommended many books, now its time I take my own advise and write my first book.

Welcome to my process.

This past February I did this fabulous course that took me from a rank beginner to making money on a website I created in less than 5 days. (that means I had no website, no knowledge and at the end of 5 days my site  http://www.TopTenSuccessBooks.com was live and had made money.) I was promised it would happen, and the promise was fulfilled. What price would you pay for starting a new enterprise, getting it up and running in less than a week, and making money. Retrained by a university or learning from books and the internet by yourself would take untold time for success. “This course by comparison is priceless” as Master Card would say.

The course is UIBC 1.0  put on by Click and Be Free and Peak Potentials. The link on my Home page that will take you to find out the whole story. (Look for my video comment about half way down the sales page. How much I paid someone else to do what I learned in less than 2 days.) While this course has an exhaustive to list of subjects too many to list here I will give you a few that I felt stood out for me.

  • Pre-course work 2-3 weeks in advance (Necessary grounding to start everyone at the same place)
  • How to turn your passion into Profit
  • How to monetize your niche
  • Sequence of Success
  • Creating your first product
  • How to set up a Facebook Fan Page
  • Create a payment stream.
  • How to track your customers “IContact”
  • Video marketing.
  • How to maximize Profits and Grow

In conclusion if you know the future in on the internet and you’re feeling left behind or don’t know where to start. Start at UIBC1.0, you won’t regret it.

For me this is the start of my first book. (working title “You Have A Book You – How to Write a Non Fiction Book) stay tuned and see how the progress goes.

My Thinking Need to Change to Become Rich!

5 Steps To Think Right and Get Rich

Everybody on the planet, including rich people, WANTS to be rich. You want to be rich and I want to be rich. Beware of the person who says that they don’t want to be rich. You likely can’t trust them in anything else that they say. They get a ‘high’ out of appearing to be pious, religious or spiritual. But I can tell you, there is nothing godly about being poor. Like an old preacher told me once, “You can’t get poor enough to help the poor not be poor anymore.”

I’m going to give you five steps, when followed, can and will transform your life in getting you what you already know you want for your life.

Do you want to be Rich?  Who’s telling you you will not or cannot?

Step 1 – “Getting rich is a matter of choice, not chance”. The power of attraction is the power that proves that ‘like attracts like.’ We’ve been wrongly told that opposites attract. That might be true with the opposite poles of a magnet, but its not true with most other things in life.

People who are opposites, fight with each other. They have conflict, contention and combat. Resisting the idea of being rich repels money from you. Thinking money is evil will make money run from you. You’ve got to choose to have money in your life. Especially if you live in the North America. You can choose to have money even when you have none. Say out loud, “I choose to have money in my life.”

You can choose, by not choosing you have made a choice.

Step 2 – “Nothing can stop you from having money”. Rev. Frederick Eikenrenkoetter said, “Nothing can stop the power of a made up mind.”When you make up your mind to get rich, nothing can stop you from doing it unless you change your mind.

The scriptures say, “Set your face like a flint.” A flint is a sharp rock with a precise edge to it. Like the point of an arrow. It also says, “Don’t look to the left or to the right.” Once your mind is made up, nothing can stop you. When I decided, as a junior in high school, that I was going to college, I made up mind. My parents didn’t have the financial means to send me. No one in my family had ever finished more than 2 years of college. But I was going. I knew I was going. I was a ‘C’ student in high school. I didn’t know how I was going to make the grades required for me to get a degree, but, I knew I was going.

By the time that I finished, 4.5 years later, I had 156 earned credits (only 128 were required for my degree). I started going and couldn’t stop. I worked two jobs while taking a full load. One part time job and one full time job. But, I’d made up mind to go. With no money and certainly not ‘college material’, I made up my mind to go. Now, today, I’m a college graduate. Nothing can stop the power of a made up mind.

Step 3 – “You’ve got to get mentally tough”. This is where most people fail to achieve getting rich in life. They are driven by the opinions of others who have never been rich and never will get rich. You can and you must get to the point where the only opinion that you listen to about getting rich is your own. No ones opinion counts.

Make no mistake about it; you ARE going to have plenty of people who tell you that you can’t do it. But you can. Just as easily as me or anyone else. Even if you don’t believe you have the mental and psychological constitution to do it. You can develop the toughness to see your goal achieved in getting rich.

Step 4 – “You’ve got to believe that you DESERVE to get rich”. If you don’t believe that you deserve to be, do and have what you want in life, you likely won’t ever get what you want. Here’s how I see it. I honor service men and women who fight for our rights and freedom in this and any free country and some countries that aren’t free. I am a citizen here. I have the right to vote. I have the right to own property. I have the right to go out and get a job, build a business or create a career. I also have as much right as Donald Trump to get rich.

It is my legal, mental and moral right to get rich and live life on my terms so long as I don’t impede the rights of others. ‘Deserving’ has to get down into your gut. Into you subconscious mind. If you don’t feel yourself as deserving, you need to do what my friend in Dallas told me. You need to hold a regular meeting with yourself and counsel yourself on your deserve-ability. You deserve to get rich as much as any other person on this planet. You’ve got to believe that.

Step 5 – “You’ve got to own a ‘whatever it takes’ mentality” Remember I told you that I wasn’t ‘college material’? I really, really wasn’t. At all. But I reached down inside of me and found the courage to decide to ‘do whatever it takes’ to go to college and get a degree. I had two looming obstacles. (1) I thought I wasn’t smart enough and (2) I didn’t have the money. I overcame the first one by deciding that I would learn to sleep less and study more than everyone else. It was MY decision and MY choice. Then, I had to resolve the money issue. I asked my dad, before I went, “How am I going to afford to go to college? Its expensive and THIS college costs twice as much as all of the others. My dad to me not to worry about; that we’d figure it out. I learned later that what they meant was, “Son, don’t worry about it now; YOU will figure it out later.” Whew! I’m glad he didn’t tell me that I was going to have to ‘figure it out’ on my own (which is in fact what I had to do). Well, needless to say, I DID figure it out and overcame my obstacles to get my degree.

What ever it take is a skill that can be learned.  It usually takes a coach for growth, to keep you to your word. This is not a sign of weakness, more a show of your developing strength.

If you’ll follow these five steps, you will develop the five necessary requirements that will propel you to doing, being and having your heart’s desire and living your dreams. Michael Murphy is a personal and corporate transformational mindset author, speaker and coach. Lauded by such greats as Mark Victor Hansen, Dr. Joe Vitale and Matt Bacak, he is the author of the most power personal development book you’ll ever own, ‘Powerfirmations’. Leadership vs Business Owners

Being the leader is your business, without you being out front you don’t have a business. This article makes great sense for all to read.

Whether a business is great or not great, a success or a failure, is determined by one person, and that person is you. In other words, the business will reflect all of the values, competence, character, morals, and decisions that you, as the business leader, make. Which, brings us to the ultimate key of business greatness: “A great business is determined by who the leader is more than what he or she does.” I use the term leader instead of owner for a very important reason and one which deserves a thorough explanation.

What Is Leadership?

The most basic principle of leadership is the ability to influence something or someone (i.e.: a business, a family, etc.) to reach a preferred goal. A person’s leadership ability is determined by their ability to influence others. As Steven Covey said in his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, “If you are leading and no one is following, then you are not really leading.” What distinguishes a good leader from a bad one? Or rather what distinguishes a good leader from a great one? Since business is about people, then leadership is the ability to influence the most people.

As James Hunter describes in his book, The Servant, leadership follows a certain pattern. Influence is created when a leader is focused on meeting the needs of the people he or she is leading. When those people’s needs are met, they begin to put their trust in the leader. Then the leader can influence these people to a vision and a goal because of the authority they have given to their leader. Yet a person’s ability to meet the needs of others and build their trust is determined by who a person is rather than only what he or she does. For example, if a business owner encourages his staff in public, yet tearing them down in private; when they find out, (and they will), any trust that was earned would be fully destroyed.

What would make a person be one way in public and another in private?  Character. Plain and simple. What has all this to do with building a great business? Everything! Who you are will either build or destroy peoples trust. Since business is all about people, (i.e.: your clients, consumers, employees, partners, vendors, etc.), ultimately, who you are will shape your relationship and interactions with these people.

If your values are weak, then your decisions will be weak, and if your decisions are weak, then your leadership will be weak. Because of this, the truth is business failure is not due to a lack of capital, lack of cash flow, bad planning, low revenue, low customers, etc. These things originate in one place, the leader. No matter what excuse you make, if a business is not great it is because of the leader. On the flip side, if a business is great it is due to great leadership. If the business is effective, it is because the leader is effective. If the business is efficient, it is because the leader is efficient.

Becoming a Great Leader

Yet, you ask, how does one become a great leader? A person is a great leader when they are able to influence others by way of meeting peoples core needs. What drives a leader to meet the needs of others? Love, plain and simple. Not love the feeling, but the actions of love. And the bible gives the best description: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. NIV

You want to be a great leader? Substitute your name in place of love and live this way every day. In other words, to be a great leader, you must be willing to be a servant to those you lead. If your heart is not in it to serve others, you should not be in business. This is because in a great business 90% of the time and 90% of the work is engaged in serving others Out of the vast majority of business enterprises in the world today, the greatest are those that have successfully learned the art of meeting people’s needs – whether by the products they sell or the services they provide.

Some companies spend billions of dollars, all in an effort to collect as much information to understand the need of the average consumer, and their entire organization is designed to meet everyone of those needs. Only when their customers truly feel that their needs are being met, can a solid loyalty be established which is the foundation for future profit. Therefore, if you desire to be great and to create a great business, you need to embrace your primary role in business, to serve people. If you make the decision to change yourself, your business will reflect that change. Your decisions will be based on a foundation of love and consideration, which will fuel your efforts to meet the needs of those around you. Then and only then, will you have the influence to lead these people to greater and greater heights, and to ultimately reach business greatness.

Do You Deserve Success?

Deep down, where it counts, many people do not believe that they deserve success. They do not think that they are worthy of success. And they may be right. They long for success. They imagine success. They struggle for success. They aim for success. But, they are addicted to failure. Yes, addicted. They refuse to give up their habitual ways of thinking, despite the overwhelming evidence that their thinking is not producing success. They refuse to give up their habitual beliefs, despite the obvious evidence that those beliefs are not conducive to success.

Every successful person I have ever met reports that it is their thinking that first stood in the way of their success and then, when they changed how and what they thought, paved the way for their success. It is the same experience I had. Every successful person I have met believes that they deserve success. Not because they are smarter. Not because they are better educated. Not because they are in any way special or unique. They believe that they deserve success simply because they believe that they deserve success. And, they are right.

Those who are spiritually minded have a couple of preconceptions (beliefs and thoughts) about success that do not serve them and may be preventing them from achieving their ideal of success. One is that in order to deserve success, you need to be a good person as judged by societal norms; and Two, that material success is not really a spiritual thing and may detract from spiritual development. Wrong on both counts. Those who are materialistically minded also have a couple of preconceptions about success that do not serve them and may be preventing them from achieving their ideal of success.

One is that spiritual principles have nothing to do with material success and may detract from success; and Two, that success is a matter of doing certain things, not about being a certain way. Wrong on both counts. Success is a holistic thing. The material is inseparable from the spiritual. The spiritual is inseparable from the material. Spiritual success without material success is as empty and meaningless as is material success without spiritual success.

In the end, it is not about doing anything. You can do all the spiritual things or you can do all the material things and still not be successful. You can do all the doing you want. You can do whatever you want. But, you will never have success, no matter what you do UNTIL you learn that it all begins with who you are. Who you are is spirit, is light, is consciousness. Consciousness is metaphysical or spiritual. The primary activities of consciousness are thinking and believing. Thinking and believing are metaphysical or spiritual attributes. It is the metaphysical or spiritual that brings forth the physical.

The formula is BE then DO then HAVE. First become worthy. Then, do whatever you like. Then, you will have success. Become worthy by thinking correctly. Become worthy by believing correctly. Look at the universe. Abundance is a fact. Lack is an erroneous perception. Stop thinking thoughts of lack and limitation. Stop believing in lack and limitation. Think abundance. Believe in abundance. Then, you will be worthy of being abundant and having abundance.

I believe that you do deserve success. I believe that everyone does, potentially. It is an unfortunate fact, however, that only those who know that they deserve success actually get it. Examine your predominant thoughts; examine your core beliefs. Do you deserve success? Only if you think so and only if you believe so.
